Thousands of people have been left without power in Kelowna.

FortisBC said that a vehicle crashed into a transmission structure and that it’s working with RCMP to assess the situation.

The collision happened near Springfield Road and Durnin Road around 4 p.m.

The outage happened around 4 p.m. and included pockets of downtown Kelowna, Pandosy, East Kelowna and Rutland.

Approximately 15,000 customers appeared to be affected according to Fortis BC’s website.

.@FortisBC says it was able to reroute power from other areas to restore service to thousands of people in #Kelowna left without electricity. It’s still trying to return service to another 1,600 customers.

The power outage caused substantial traffic delays along Harvey Avenue.
