Gas leak in northwest Calgary forces evacuation

Emergency crews were called to a gas leak just before noon Tuesday in the northwest community of Hillhurst.

The leak forced the evacuation of shoppers and staff from a Safeway on 10th Street N.W.

Pedestrians were also kept out of the area while crews repaired the gas line.

Everyone was allowed back into the area about an hour later.

It’s believed construction crews may have hit the gas line, causing it to rupture.
