SASKATOON – It may not seem like it, but mosquito numbers are down in Saskatoon from the same period last year.
According to city officials, the long winter and more drastic change in temperature which had pools of water drying up quickly likely led to the overall decline in the population.

“If things stay as they are, which who knows what mother nature is going to throw our way, then it could be a better year than what we’ve seen in the past,” said Geoff McLeod, the city’s urban forestry superintendent.
Activity was up slightly over the weekend, mainly due to the humid conditions.
West nile carrying mosquitoes aren’t expected to show up in the city until late July.
