Thanks to the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics, we have now discovered that the world needs more giant inflatable beavers. Seriously… that was awesome! Our friends down south can have the innocent, fun loving Snoopy in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade but I'm pretty sure our ginormous beaver can beat him up.
The Closing Ceremony of the Vancouver Winter Olympics has had its share of mixed reviews but I thought it was great. I loved how we were able to poke fun at our stereotypes and celebrate so many great Canadian icons like the Beaver, Moose (Mark Messier was no where to be found) and Mounties! Even making fun at the technical glitch that ruined the lighting of the cauldron moment during the Opening Ceremonies – what a great idea!
Of course a classy moment was when they allowed Saskatoon's Catriona Le May Doan the opportunity to have her "Olympic Moment" – the chance to light the cauldron. She couldn't light it due to the technical glitch at the Opening Ceremonies but on Sunday Night it was all about Catriona. She stood there in the spotlight and lit the cauldron for the last time – a great Canadian moment.

Some other quick thoughts from the Closing Ceremony of the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver…
– Nice to see them introduce Prime Minister Stephen Harper. I thought it was a bit of a snub when they failed to introduce him at the Opening Ceremonies, so it was nice to see them fix that.
– Was there any doubt that Joannie Rochette would be Canada's Flag Bearer at the Closing Ceremony? What a great choice! She was inspirational during her time at the Olympics and there's no doubt her mother was looking down from above with a big smile on her face.
– I have no shame in saying I'm a Michael Bublé fan but I was disappointed to see him lip-synching during his performance. Why is it necessary to do this? Why can't singers sing live?
– How cool was it to see the Russian Orchestra playing at Red Square in Moscow while the conductor was at BC Place in Vancouver. Gotta love the magic of technology.
– They showed some figure skaters / ice dancers in Sochi, skating right near the ocean. It was a beautiful scene but was it real? They said it was but it kinda looked a little too digital… or maybe it's just me?
– There were a ton of musical performances including one band that I will not mention. They may be considered a great Canadian band but I think there are more people who dislike them than like them. It's also been said that if you listen to one of their songs, you've heard them all… I'm just saying. So you can have your Nickel Back and take my Two Cents with ya.
Overall, it was a great way to end these games. A little humour can go a long way and we showed the world that Canada is a great place to live or visit.

PS – I have a quick request for the Canadian Olympic Committee… please spend the next four years learning about fashion. Thanks to you, our Canadian athletes now have something to wear at "Ugly Christmas Sweater" parties. Seriously… what was that? Please come up with something cool, something that Canadian fans may want to buy for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.
