Nova Scotia’s police watchdog says a Halifax police officer arrested in Tantallon, N.S., on Wednesday is facing charges of unlawfully entering a home and sexually assaulting the owner.
In a press release, the Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) says Det. Const. Joseph Farrow, 51, of Hammonds Plains, is set to appear in Halifax Provincial Court on Thursday afternoon.

SiRT says the victim of the alleged assault was known to Farrow.
Farrow has reportedly served on the Halifax Regional Police force for 23 years.
In a press release issued late Wednesday, Halifax Regional Police said the RCMP were investigating the incident.

However, a spokesperson for the Mounties said the investigation has now been turned over to SiRT.
Halifax police said on Wednesday that the officer would remain in custody overnight before appearing in Halifax Provincial Court on Thursday.
This is the second arrest involving a Halifax Regional Police officer in the past week.

Another officer was arrested in connection with an alleged theft at a business Friday afternoon.
Both officers have been suspended with pay in accordance with the Nova Scotia Police Act.
