Fatal crash on Highway 63

EDMONTON – A man is dead after a collision on Highway 63 near the community of Grassland, which is about 150 kilometres north-east of Edmonton.

The RCMP say the 43-year-old man was driving a van when it crossed over onto oncoming traffic, crashing into a parked semi-tractor trailer at a roadside rest stop.

The driver of the van died at the scene, while the only person inside the semi was not injured. Charges are not being considered against the semi tractor trailer driver.

The collision happened at around 6:20 Sunday night.

Investigators say road conditions at the time were clear and visibility was good. They believe the driver of the van was driving in a erratically and dangerously before the crash happened.

The RCMP continue to investigate the cause.

The victim’s family has been notified and the identity of the victim is not being released.
