A woman was killed and a man was critically injured after a two-vehicle crash near Grande Prairie on Saturday.
Emergency crews responded to the collision at Highway 40 near Township Road 692 at 1 a.m.
A pickup truck was heading north and a semi-truck was going south when the crash happened, RCMP said.
A 42-year-old Lethbridge woman, who was driving the truck, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. She was the only one in the vehicle.
STARS Air Ambulance took the semi-truck driver — a 32-year-old Grande Prairie man — to the Queen Elizabeth II Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The collision forced the closure of Highway 40 south of Grande Prairie near Grovedale for several hours and prompted a detour to be set up, police said. At around 6 p.m., police said the highway was reopened.
The cause is under investigation.
