VERNON – Officials are calling it a tragic event and have turned the file over to the coroner’s office following the death of two fishermen on Kal Lake south of Vernon.
The bodies were discovered early Wednesday morning in the Cosens Bay area at the northern tip of the lake.
Police say a Coldstream man found some abandoned coolers in the water and on shore. Upon further investigation, the man found a dead white dog in the water. He called search and rescue officials who later retrieved two bodies from the water. Their 12-foot aluminum boat was also recovered.

“The early information the police have learned is, the two middle aged men were out on a two day camping trip and were to return yesterday afternoon,” says Vernon RCMP spokesman, Gord Molendyk.
Molendyk says both victims were from the Vernon area and in their mid-50’s.
He adds that family didn’t bother to alert officials because they thought the men may have delayed their return because of Tuesday’s storm.
Their names have not been released.
Molendyk says both men were wearing life jackets. He adds it’s possible they may have died from hypothermia.
