The parking lot the tent is located on is newly paved and smooth to skate on.

Hosted by Calgary Roller Skate and the Calgary Municipal Land Corporation (CMLC), the weekly gatherings have live DJ performances and food trucks.

Protective gear is encouraged but not mandatory.

Theresa Tucci from Calgary Roller Skate said CMLC reached out to their organization to see if they’d like to throw some skating parties at the tent.

She told Global News it’s a great way to promote roller skating in Calgary.

“When Lloyds [roller rink] closed everybody thought it was over,” Tucci said. “It’s a great thing for the community at large … Even after this is over, skating is around.”

The first of the four public roller skating parties was held on Wednesday, with about 100 people attending.

Should you miss the skate parties in Victoria Park this month, Calgary Roller Skate hosts monthly skate parties at the Junior Varsity Volleyball Training Centre in southeast Calgary starting in September.
