Montreal bus drivers show support at court for beaten colleague

MONTREAL – A few dozen bus drivers were at the Montreal courthouse on Friday to show support for a colleague who was attacked last month.

They are still upset after a 36-year-old bus driver and father was badly beaten by three men in Little Italy in the early hours of Wednesday, April 24.

Two of the three suspects arrested by police were in court on Friday for a bail hearing. Twenty-year-old Jeffrey St Cloud and Daniel Quiroz Rivas face charges of aggravated assault. The third suspect is a minor and did not appear in court Friday.

Police released security camera footage that showed the suspects from the time they got on the bus to just before the alleged assault took place, which led the arrest of the suspects.

One of which walked into a police station and gave himself up after his image was splashed all over the media and the other was found thanks to a tip.

CA-OM-SC union president Denis Vaillancourt was also at the courthouse and he confirmed that the victim is “still in rough shape.”

Vaillancourt is asking for more cameras in buses and calling for changes to Quebec’s criminal code. He would like to see stiffer penalties imposed on those who attack bus drivers.
