New Saskatchewan liquor regulations in effect

REGINA – Some of the proposed changes to Saskatchewan’s liquor regulations are now in place.

Thirty-nine of the proposed 77 updates to the regulations came into effect today.

Those regulations include movie theatres being able to apply for a permit sell alcohol in areas minors are not allowed, giving greater flexibility to U-brew and U-vin businesses in how they operate and allowing hotels, resorts and lodges to offer all-inclusive pricing that includes alcohol.

Golf operators will also be allowed to determine the number of carts and kiosks on courses and the number of drinks sold. Previously, carts and kiosks were restricted to one per nine holes and two drinks sold per player.

Sports stadiums can now determine the number of drinks to sell to spectators instead of the previous two per purchase.

“Our government is pleased to be able to improve our liquor regulatory system by eliminating red tape and creating new opportunities for business,” said Donna Harpauer, the minister responsible for Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority.

The remaining changes still need to pass in the legislature.

The government expects those amendments to pass during the current session and to be implemented this summer.
