CALGARY – Officials say Devonian Gardens will remain open, despite work being done to repair leaks in some planters in the indoor park.
As many as nine stores below have been damaged by water, including Roots and Harry Rosen which have seen repeated leaks.
“The way the entire structure is built, you could have a leak in one location that could move to anywhere in the floor,” explains parks manager Doug Marter. “We don’t know for sure, and that’s part of what we are trying to determine.”
Ccrews will be temporarily removing trees and shrubs from the leaking planters to try and locate the problem. Work is expected to take a few weeks, but event bookings for things like weddings and parties will proceed as planned.
“Devonian Gardens is a popular event space and the work required will be scheduled around bookings,” Marter says. “To ensure public safety, there may be limited access to areas where repair work is occurring.”
Devonian Gardens reopened to the public in June after undergoing a lengthy $37 million renovation.
All of the costs associated with fixing the leaks are covered by warranty.
