NDP candidate George Heyman has defeated sitting Liberal Minister of Health, Margaret MacDiarmid.
Heyman had taken 47.1 per cent of the vote compared to MacDiarmid’s 42.5 per cent, as of 11:25 p.m. on election night.

MacDiarmid is one of several Liberal cabinet ministers to lose their seats this election. Most recently Minister of Health, she had also served headed the Education, Tourism and Labour files since being elected in 2009.
A labour and environmental leader, Heyman was the executive director of the Sierra Club B.C. from 2009-2012 and is also a previous president of the B.C. Government and Service Employees’ Union.
Vancouver-Fairview was seen as a likely NDP pickup going into this election.
