MONTREAL – The Quebec government has announced feasibility study funding for a commuter train to the south shore.
The success of the commuter train network between Montreal and Candiac has prompted community members and stakeholders to ask for an opportunity to study the feasibility of a line running between Montreal to Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu.

Montreal’s transportation agency (AMT) will receive $125,000 worth of funding to carry out the research.
“The feasibility study proves once again the department intends to make decisions that take into account sustainable development, which, among other things, promotes increased public transportation,” said Parti Quebecois MNA for Saint-Jean, Dave Turcotte in a statement.
“This is a big step for the region,” noted Marie Bouille, the PQ MNA for Iberville. “It’s a sign that our efforts have paid off,”
The feasibility study is expected to begin by 2014.
