Police probe heist following Bieber concert

TORONTO — Police in South Africa are investigating after a large sum of cash was stolen from a stadium following a concert by Canadian pop star Justin Bieber.

According to a police statement, the well-planned theft was only discovered Monday morning.

“It is alleged that the complainant had locked money in the walk-in safe following the Justin Bieber concert and left for home last night at about 23h00,” said Lieutenant-Colonel Katlego Mogale.

“This morning when she arrived to report on duty, she discovered that several doors leading to the main safe had been tampered with.  The suspect(s) gained entrance through the bathroom roof leading to the safe wall and forced it open. The suspects then used rope to gain entry from the roof to the safe, removed millions of rands in cash.”

One rand is equal to about 11 cents Canadian.

The stolen money was from stadium concessions during the Bieber concert Sunday night and an earlier Bon Jovi concert.

FNB Stadium publicist Deon Mudie declined to comment.

Bieber performed in front of a sold-out crowd of 95,000 in Johannesburg on Sunday.

The 19-year-old singer will take a break before kicking off the North American leg of his Believe tour in San Diego on June 22.

He is set to play Ottawa on July 23 followed by shows in Toronto on July 25 and 26.
