A wildfire burning near Ashcroft grew overnight due to strong, gusty winds, according to the BC Wildfire Management Branch.
About 80 fire fighters, five helicopters, heavy equipment and air tankers are fighting to 850-hectare blaze in Spatsum Creek, about 10 kilometres south of Ashcroft.

The Thompson Nicola Regional District has issued an evacuation alert for an area west of highway 97C, and spanning five kilometres north of the wildfire.
The BC Forest Fire Information office said the unstable weather and steep, rocky terrain has continually challenged crews who have been fighting this wildfire over the last week.
A specialized incident management team has been called in to help.
Crews know the fire was caused by a person, but a specific cause hasn’t been determined.
Smoke from the fire is visible throughout the B.C. Interior.
