A two-year old boy is in hospital tonight after falling from the second-story window of a Lower Mainland home.
It happened late Saturday afternoon at a home on Springfield road on the Aldergrove Abbotsford border.
The boy is going to be fine, but for emergency responders, it’s a renewed reminder about the dangers of leaving children unattended near windows.
Over the years, the Lower Mainland has seen far too many accidents like these; children falling from windows and balconies. In Surrey last August, a two year old girl toppled over a 9th floor balcony railing, plunging 21 metres. She later died in hospital.

With the approach of summer, healthcare workers are warning parents to think twice about leaving windows wide open around children whose curiosity can sometimes put them in danger.
The Provincial Health Services Authority is advising parents to move furniture and planters away from windows and balconies, and to keep windows open 10 centimetres or less. A good idea is to also install window safety devices, but keep in mind, screens are not good enough.
Last year a Mission girt fell right through a window that had a screen.
It is also advised that parents have a conversation with their children about window and balcony safety. And though it’s not always possible, children should not be left unsupervised around windows.
