Attention shoppers. If you want to shop at the Richmond IKEA on Monday, you will have to cross picket lines.
IKEA staff will be picketing Monday as part of ongoing job action after union served IKEA with a written strike notice on Thursday.
The store is one of only two unionized IKEA stores in Canada. The other unionized store is in Montreal.
The union says workers rejected the company’s offer for a second time by an 83 per cent margin, saying IKEA was looking for a variety of concessions and a return to a tiered wage system. Since not all staff voted in favour of striking, those workers will be able to continue working at the store, which will be running on reduced hours.
