The Saskatoon school says the deficit would be higher without job and program cuts already made to save money.

The University of Saskatchewan also plans to save $2 million by putting off some planned spending for infrastructure renewal.

A tuition increase averaging 4.5 per cent was announced in March.

The budget details come as the university tries to address a projected $44.5-million annual deficit in its operating budget by 2016.
