Before the opening, the hunting and fishing enthusiast said he was excited about the new location on Sterling Lyon Parkway even though Cabela’s isn’t new to the city.

“This one is special. It has the fancy front, it’s bigger than the one in Grand Forks — (I) thought it was something to come see in person.”

The 70,000-square-foot outdoor retailer opened for a long lineup of shoppers at 11 a.m.

The store features a mountain replica with wildlife displays, a fudge shop and an indoor archery range.

An archer shot an arrow through the ribbon to open the store.

The new Cabela’s replaces a 44,000-square-foot Ellice Avenue store that opened in 2008.
