MONTREAL – Old Dutch Foods Ltd. says it will close its plant and warehouse operations in Lachine, Quebec effective Sept. 27.
The company says the plant has ‘‘reached the end of its economic life‘‘ and it is not feasible to renovate the plant.

There are 216 people either actively employed or on temporary layoff at the plant just west of Montreal who will be affected by the closing.
The plant was built in 1964 by Humpty Dumpty Inc. and has been in continuous operation as a snack food plant since then.
Humpty Dumpty was acquired by Old Dutch Foods in 2006.
The company says the Quebec market will be supplied by other Old Dutch Foods plants in Canada and sales operations will continue as usual.
