Building permits issued in March rise in Saskatchewan

REGINA – The number of building permits issued in Saskatchewan continues to rise.

Statistics Canada reported today $270.2 million worth of permits were issued in March, up 26.6 per cent from February and 22.6 per cent from the same period a year ago.

The government says it is a new record for the value of permits issued in March.

“In spite of less than ideal weather conditions, Saskatchewan’s construction businesses were still able to make progress,” said Economy Minister Bill Boyd.

“That says a lot about the quality of the companies and the skilled workers who make up one of our economy’s important sectors.”

Residential permits were up 19.3 per cent to $140.2 million while non-residential permits increased 35.6 per cent to $130.0 million.

Nationally, permit values were up 8.6 per cent in March.
