Manitoba shoppers take aim at Target

WINNIPEG – Manitoba shoppers are set to take aim at Target Tuesday morning.

The American discount retailer will open the doors to three Manitoba locations at 8 a.m.

Two of the stores are in Winnipeg, with one at Kildonan Place and the other in Southdale. The Shoppers Mall in Brandon will house the third.

Each store will employ around 150 people. The Kildonan Place location will be staffed by just over 200 employees.

The stores look very similar to those in the United States, but will feature some Canadian brands, including Roots and Old Dutch.

Fans of the store are anxiously awaiting the opening to see if the prices will be comparable to the American locations.

“We will be competitive in the Canadian market,” said Derek Jenkins, Target Canada’s senior vice-president of external relations.

Target has long been a popular store for Manitobans who drive to Grand Forks and Fargo, N.D.

This is a soft opening with the store’s first flyer going out on May 24.
