Police investigate fatal collision on Yellowhead Trail

EDMONTON- A 17-year-old male has died after being struck by a vehicle in the city’s west end.

The collision happened around 4:20a.m. Saturday, on Yellowhead Trail near 215th Street.

Police say the 17-year-old was apparently walking down “the middle of Yellowhead Trail” when he was struck by an SUV heading west on the highway. Officers say the man was rushed to hospital where he died of his injuries several hours later.

At this time it is not known why the man, whose name has not been released, was walking on the highway.

Police say speed and alcohol are not factors in the collision.

The 34-year-old female driver of the SUV was not injured in the collision.

The Major Collision Investigative Unit of the Edmonton Police Service Traffic Section is now investigating.

Traffic investigators are asking anyone who saw a pedestrian in the area before 4:20 a.m., or with any other information related to the collision, to contact the EPS at 780-423-4567or #377 from a mobile phone.
