SASKATOON – One person was injured after a major blaze at an apartment building this morning in Saskatoon.
Fire crews were called to the fire just before 7 a.m. at 1121 McKercher Drive south of 8th Street.
Firefighters were on the scene in less than three minutes and a second alarm was sounded at 7:12 a.m.
A total of eight apparatus and 32 firefighters battled the blaze.
Crews were not able to initially enter the suite where the fire broke out and had to set up an exterior attack to knock down the fire.
The blaze was brought under control in 1 hour and 15 minutes.
One person suffered smoke inhalation.
“(The fire) burned a good portion of the roof off. The fire wall that is in building stopped progression further through the building,” Asst. Fire Chief Glenn Ledray told Global News.

The fire caused extensive damage to the building and Ledray said residents will not be allowed back in for some time
Two suites on the top floor sustained major fire damage and four suites below have water damage.
The building contains 24 suites with approximately 34 residents.
The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
