Canucks vs. Sharks: Game one preview

I’m trying my hand at live blogging- warning- this could be a disaster.  But what won’t be a disaster is this match up.

I think the Sharks and Canucks secretly wanted it to go this way (rather than facing the Kings or Blues) but the adage is “careful what you wish for.”

The Sharks are a total enigma to me.

They looked to be total sellers near the trade deadline.

Off loading hulking defenseman Douglas Murray (who’s hair has Mike Ricci-promise) and Ryan Clowe (who wanted to take Kesler out to the back alley after their 2011 Western Conference series), both before the trade deadline.

Then on trade deadline day they beat out the Canucks for the services of former Canuck Raffi Torres.

So were they throwing in the towel or just re-tooling?  Well when you have a goalie who’s having a Vezina caliber season- throwing in the towel is physically impossible and here we are with a rematch of the Canucks and Sharks.

Both teams have an aging core (see H & D Sedin and Thornton and Marleau- I do love that 32 and 33 years old is considered old in the NHL) and a seemingly closing window.

Both teams are perpetual regular season overachievers, and both have been unable to take that next step and hoist the big prize.

My biggest questions for Game 1:  Will Joe Thornton go in for another head butt on Kesler and maybe a face wash of Henrik Sedin?

Who will Raffi Torres staple to the boards first?

And I guess how will Luongo fare in this unexpected playoff start?

So much to look forward to.  Puck drop at 7:30 p.m.
