Licensed medical marijuana grow raided; police seize $2M in plants

TORONTO – Police have charged a man after more than $2 million worth of pot was seized from an east-end business Tuesday.

Drug squad officers executed a search warrant at a commercial property in the Gerrard Street East and Leslie Street area in Toronto.

Investigators allege the operation was growing 2,200 more plants that it was authorized to produce.

Police allege the excess marijuana, which could be reproduced every two-to-three months, was for the purpose of trafficking.

Officers recovered 2,203 plants with a street value of $2.2 million as well as approximately 44 pounds of dried marijuana.

Ping Jiang, 44, of Toronto, has been charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking marijuana and possession of proceeds of crime.
