Dylan Hanchar identified as victim in Winnipeg’s 14th homicide

Residents who live in the apartment say police remain on the third floor investigating – May 5, 2019

Winnipeg police have charged a local man with manslaughter in a stabbing incident on Taylor Avenue.

Police responded to reports of a disturbance at the Palm Gardens apartment building on the 1000 block of Taylor just before 4 a.m. on Sunday morning.

Officers found a man lying unresponsive inside one of the suites.

The man was rushed to hospital in critical condition and has since been pronounced dead.

The victim was identified Monday morning as Dylan Brian Hanchar, 24.

Police said they believe the accused and the victim were acquaintances and became involved in an argument, at which point the victim was stabbed.

Hassan Murtaza lives across the hall from where the incident took place.

He says it was shocking to hear this happened in his neighbourhood.

“I mean it’s a homicide and you don’t expect something to happen like this in a building like this one, you know? It’s a safe neighbourhood so something like this happening in this apartment is quite scary,” he said.
