Police divers call off search for missing boaters

The vessel was located near Marie Curtis Park, in the Lakeshore Road East and Dixie Road, in Mississauga. Handout / Toronto Police Services

TORONTO – Police divers have called off the search for the owners of a capsized boat that was found in Lake Ontario.

The boat was found capsized near Marie Curtis Park, near Lakeshore Road East and Dixie Road in Mississauga with the keys in the ignition.

Search attempts by a police dive team failed to turn up the missing boaters.

And Toronto police now say there’s no reason to believe anyone is missing and think the boat may have been abandoned.

Investigators are now calling on the public to help find the owners of the vessel.

It’s unclear if the boat was stolen; the keys were in the ignition and the throttle was in the on-position.

The boat is approximately 12-feet long, black and white in colour and has an older 65-horse powered Evinrude outboard motor.
