Revamped Streetheart back on the road with Harlequin member as lead singer

Canadian rock band Streetheart is back on the road with a lead singer who might be familiar to their fans.

The Regina-founded act, who scored a number of radio hits throughout the 1970s and 1980s, say they’ve paired up with Paul McNair of Harlequin, another homegrown act of the same era.

McNair is stepping in to fill the role of Streetheart’s original singer Kenny Shields, who died of heart failure in July 2017, as the band embarks on a series of summer tour dates.

Their new lineup also includes drummer David Langguth, who also plays with Kim Mitchell.

Streetheart were darlings of Canadian rock radio with hits such as Action, Hollywood, and a cover of the Rolling Stones classic Under My Thumb.

Around the same time, Harlequin, a Winnipeg-founded group with their own slate of early 1980s hits, including Innocence and Thinking of You. McNair joined Harlequin on bass, first in the 1990s before returning years later.

The revamped Streetheart will play a number of summer festival dates that include Dauphin, Man. (June 27), Edenvale, Ont. (July 13), Prince George, B.C. (Aug. 9) and Saskatoon (Aug. 18).

They also plan to release the greatest hits compilation Life. Legacy. Music. on April 12, which features Nature’s Way, a cover of American band Spirit that was the final song Shields recorded before he died.
