Almost 100 families were forced from their homes after an apartment fire in Montreal’s Saint-Laurent borough on Wednesday night.

The blaze broke out in a unit on the fifth floor of the building, located on Decarie Boulevard.

A 69-year-old man was taken to hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.

Officials say no other apartment was damaged and residents were able to return to their homes shortly after firefighters contained the blaze.

The Montreal police arson squad is investigating the incident.
