Serial pharmacy robbery suspect arrested and charged by Edmonton police

A 43-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with numerous armed robberies in Edmonton.

Edmonton police said four armed robberies have happened mostly at city pharmacies between May 2018 and March 2019, where a male suspect armed with a handgun reportedly forced staff to the floor while he stole pharmaceuticals.

Police said they received information the suspect was staying at a St. Albert motel while they were investigating the most recent robbery, which happened on Saturday. Ronald Jason Fitzgerald was arrested in St. Albert by Edmonton police and RCMP on Sunday.

Police said they found stolen items, a BB gun and a large amount of narcotics during a search warrant of a motel room and vehicle.

Fitzgerald has been charged with four counts each of robbery, use of a imitation firearm and disguise with intent.

Police said they believe Fitzgerald is connected to similar robbers that they’re investigating.
