Man petitions to make CN Tower into world’s largest goal light

TORONTO – A Toronto man is hoping to turn the CN Tower into the world’s biggest goal light during the NHL playoffs.

Scotty Booth, a marketing student in Toronto, created a petition on Change.org after the Toronto Maple Leafs clinched a playoff spot Saturday with a 4-1 win against the Ottawa Senators.

Now Booth wants to change the CN Tower into an unmistakable signal with every Leafs playoff goal.

“I’m hoping to get the CN Tower turned into a goal light,” Both said. “I really want it to turn into a full on spinning goal siren light.”

As of 2 p.m. Wednesday, 14,838 people had signed the petition.

The Leafs haven’t seen post-season action since 2004 when Mats Sundin was still the captain of the team and the iPhone didn’t exist.

For Booth, the team’s return to the post-season is a big deal.

Currently, the CN Tower is scheduled to light up in blue before each home playoff game.

Booth hopes to change that with 50,000 signatures.

And his petition seems to have found favour with Leafs’ player and Ontario native Nazem Kadri who tweeted Wednesday that the idea was “genius.”

“For all u [sic] suggesting turning the CN tower into a goal light for the post season… #genius !” Kadri tweeted.

Only people inside the arena can experience the red, spinning light behind the net after each goal, Booth said.

“If we can turn the biggest structure in the city into a goal light, everyone will be able to see it and everyone will be able to enjoy it,” he said.

Booth will be petitioning for more signatures outside of the Air Canada Centre before the Leafs last regular season game on Saturday against their potential first-round opponents, the Montreal Canadiens.
