Kitchener Rangers split weekend series with Owen Sound Attack

WATCH ABOVE: Highlights of the Kitchener Rangers weekend series wit the Owen Sound Attack.

The Kitchener Rangers closed the books on the regular season on Saturday night with a visit to Owen Sound where they were bested by the Attack by a score of 4-2.

Greg Meireles and Joseph Garreffa each score for the Rangers in the loss.

Garreffa’s goal extended his point streak to 20 games, longest in the OHL this season.

The Attack were led by a pair of goals from Daylon Groulx while Sergey Popov and  Barret Kirwin also found the back of the net for Owen Sound.

Lucas Pfeil was in between the pipes for Kitchener and he made 32 saves in a losing effort.

FRIDAY: KITCHENER RANGERS 9, OWEN SOUND ATTACK 3

In the opening game of their home-and-home series with Owen Sound, the Kitchener Rangers hammered the Attack 9-3 on Friday night at the Aud.

Jonathan Yantsis scored four goals on the night for Kitchener including his 50th of the season. He is the 15th player in Rangers’ history to surpass the 50-goal plateau and the first since  Jeff Skinner in 2009-10.

Alexey Lipanov also potted a pair while Riley Damiani, Meireles and Reid Valade were also able to beat the Owen Sound netminders.

Groulx, Maksim Sushko and Popov countered for the Attack.

Luke Richardson made 27 saves to record his 28th win of the season.
