Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for the Guelph area and Waterloo region that calls for isolated thunderstorms on Thursday.
The agency said several rounds of showers will move through the area during the afternoon and evening, bringing about 10 millimetres of rain.

There is a chance of isolated thunderstorms that may boost rainfall totals into the 15-25 millimetre range by Friday night, the weather office said.
These conditions are not expected to last, with double-digit lows expected Saturday and Sunday evening, according to Environment Canada. But there is also a flooding concern since the ground is still frozen or snow-covered.
“These rainfall amounts combined with mild temperatures may cause significant snowmelt or runoff leading to localized ponding on streets and other low lying areas,” Environment Canada said in their statement.

The Grand River Conservation Authority already issued flood watches for most of the watershed and a warning for the Nith River on Thursday.
Residents are being reminded to exercise extreme caution around bodies of water and parents should keep their children and pets away from banks.
