Canada has joined a growing number of countries and airlines grounding Boeing’s 737 MAX 8 aircraft after the crash in Ethiopia that killed 157 people — including 18 Canadians — on Sunday.
On Wednesday, U.S. President Donald Trump ordered a ban on the aircraft in the United States, where Boeing is based, effective immediately.
As the investigation into the crash continues, here is a wrap-up of countries and airlines that have temporarily suspended the plane and those that are still using the Boeing 737 MAX 8 fleet.
Who has temporarily suspended Boeing 737 MAX 8 planes?
Australia
Australia’s Civil Aviation Safety Authority said it was temporarily suspending the operation of the planes to or from the country while investigations into the cause of the accident continue.
Bermuda
Bermuda’s aviation authority said it’s prohibited MAX 8 and MAX 9 aircraft from its airspace.
Brazil
Brazil was the first major Latin American country to suspend the 737 MAX 8 following a request by the South American country’s federal chief prosecutor. It hasn’t, however, ordered 737 MAX 9 planes to be grounded.
Canada
On Wednesday, Transport Minister Marc Garneau said Ottawa is grounding all Boeing 737 MAX 8 and 9 planes in Canada over safety concerns arising from the crash.
Garneau said the decision to ground the plane was made after a review of the evidence about the aircraft.

China
China’s aviation regulator grounded the country’s Boeing 737 MAX 8 planes, including those operated by Air China, China Eastern Airlines, China Southern Airlines and Hainan Airlines.
Colombia
Colombia won’t let 737 MAX 8 planes fly into its airspace.
Egypt
Egypt banned Boeing 737 MAX aircraft from its airspace as a “precautionary measure” to ensure the safety of passengers, the civil aviation authority said.
Ethiopia
Ethiopian Airlines, which plane crashed on Sunday, grounded the remaining four of its 737 MAX 8 fleet.
The company’s chief executive officer said Boeing should ground all of its 737 MAX 8 jets until it is established that they are safe to fly.
European Union Aviation Safety Agency
The European Union’s aviation safety agency suspended all flights in the bloc by Boeing 737-8 and 737-9 planes.
These European countries include:
Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland.

Fiji
Fiji’s civil aviation authority and Fiji Airways temporarily grounded the carrier’s two Boeing 737 MAX planes, saying they had confidence in the model’s airworthiness but would suspend flights out of deference to public concern and regulatory action around the world.
Hong Kong
Hong Kong’s civil aviation department temporarily grounded all of its Boeing 737 MAX aircraft flying in, out of and over the area.
India
India said it will not allow Boeing 737 MAX planes to enter or transit in its airspace.
Indonesia
Indonesia ordered its airlines to ground their Boeing 737 MAX 8 planes.
Kazakhstan
Kazakhstan suspended its Boeing 737 MAX flight. Only one aircraft of that make is registered in the country, belonging to a privately-owned airline.
Kuwait
Kuwait’s aviation authority banned all Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft from its airspace, state news agency KUNA said.
Malaysia
The Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia said that none of the Malaysian carriers operates the Boeing 737 MAX 8. But the aviation authority said it’s suspending this aircraft flying to or from Malaysia until further notice.
Mexico
Mexico has grounded 737 MAX 8 and 737 MAX 9 flights after its carrier Aeromexico had decided to do so.
Mongolia
The Mongolian Civil Aviation Authority said it had ordered the state carrier MIAT Mongolian Airlines to ground the sole Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft in its fleet.
New Zealand
New Zealand’s Civil Aviation Authority said it was imposing a temporary suspension banning Boeing 737 MAX aircraft from its airspace after consultation with other regulators.
The regulator said only one airline, Fiji Airways, flew the Boeing 737 MAX 8 to New Zealand.

Oman
Oman’s civil aviation authority said it is suspending operations of its Boeing 737 MAX aircraft in and out of the country “until further notice.”
Panama
Panama’s aviation authority has grounded flights by the MAX 8 and MAX 9 planes.
Turkey
Turkey’s transport ministry and Turkish Airlines have suspended all flights by the Boeing 737 MAX 8 and MAX 9 models.
Singapore
Singapore’s Civil Aviation Authority suspended operations of all Boeing 737 MAX aircraft in and out of the country. Singapore Airlines said its unit Silk Air, which operates six MAX 8 planes, has temporarily withdrawn them from service.
Serbia
Serbia’s aviation authorities barred Boeing 737 MAX planes from the country’s airspace.
South Korea
South Korea said it is conducting an emergency inspection for its low-cost airline, Eastar Jet, which has two Boeing 737 MAX 8 jets. Eastar Jet said it would temporarily ground the two planes.
United Arab Emirates
The United Arab Emirates banned the operation of all Boeing MAX models in its airspace.
United Kingdom
Britain suspended all flights of the Boeing 737 MAX aircraft over its territory.
United States
On Wednesday, President Trump issued an immediate ban on the aircraft in the U.S.
“We’re going to be issuing an emergency order of prohibition regarding all flights of the 737 MAX 8 and 737 MAX 9,” Trump said. “Safety is our paramount concern.”

Vietnam
Vietnam’s aviation agency said it banned Boeing 737 MAX aircraft from its airspace.
Airlines that have suspended the planes
Aerolineas Argentinas
Argentina’s largest airline, Aerolineas Argentinas said it has temporarily suspended the operation of the Boeing 737 MAX 8 planes as it waits for the result of investigations into the fatal crash.
The Mexican airline said it suspended the operation of its six Boeing 737 MAX 8 planes.
Cayman Airways
Cayman Airways said it has grounded both of its Boeing 737 MAX 8 jets.
Comair
The South African airline said it would remove Boeing 737 MAX 8 jets from its schedule.
S7 Airlines
Russian S7 Airlines said it would ground its two MAX 8 planes starting Wednesday and that the decision would not affect its flight schedules.
Lion Air
Thailand’s civil aviation authority said it is suspending the use of the Thai Lion Air’s Boeing 737 MAX 9 for seven days due to safety concerns.
