While the kids are out of school for March Break, class will still be in session at Kitchener Collegiate Institute.
The Waterloo Region District School Board has announced that the high school will be closed on Wednesday as Waterloo Regional Police officers conduct training sessions.
The school will be closed to students and staff as “the police employ a wide variety of training techniques and require a facility free of civilians in order to ensure safety.”

A spokesperson for Waterloo Regional Police said that the force regularly conducts these sessions to keep officers sharp.
“It’s not uncommon for officers to engage in training exercises at businesses or at schools, just to continue our training or to work on exercises,” said Const. Andre Johnson. “Normally, we will partner up with the school board in terms of going through some drills for our officers, just to refresh them on training.”

The SWAT team is expected to be on site on Wednesday conducting training exercises.
“Typically, it will be our emergency response team that will go down and do some training,” he explained.
