A man from Everett, Ont., has been charged following a police pursuit in Innisfil, officers say.
South Simcoe police say that on Saturday at around 8:30 a.m., an officer observed a vehicle exiting a parking lot in Stroud at a high rate of speed.
Officers say a woman was in the back seat and the door was open.
Police say the officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the driver allegedly sped away.
Officers say a vehicle pursuit ensued but was called off due to safety reasons.
The South Simcoe police notified the Barrie police and asked they keep a lookout for the suspect vehicle.
A short while later, police say the vehicle was located abandoned at Georgian Downs.
According to police, the woman who had been in the back seat of the vehicle was located nearby on foot by the Barrie police.
Officers say a man and an eight-year-old child were found hiding in an outbuilding on a nearby property.
According to police, the child had also been in the fleeing vehicle.
Police say an investigation revealed it was an alleged domestic violence-related incident.
Officers say the man was arrested and transported to the South Division, where he was charged with two counts of dangerous operations, flight while pursued by a police officer, two counts of operating a vehicle while prohibited and forcible confinement.
According to police, the accused was held pending a bail hearing.
Police say the woman and child were not physically injured as a result of the incident.
