The Saskatchewan Ministry of Environment is reminding anglers all fishing shacks must be removed from ice-covered waters this month.
Officials said ice fishing shelters are found abandoned every spring, which can later pose a danger to boaters, water-skiers and others trying to enjoy the province’s lakes.
With the 2018-19 ice fishing season winding down, anglers are reminded all shacks south of Highway 16 must be removed no later than March 15, and the deadline in areas north of Highway 16 is March 31.

If shelters are left out past the deadline, owners can be prosecuted.

In Saskatchewan, ice fishing shelters must have the owner’s name, address and phone number on the outside at least 2.5 centimetres high.
The ministry also reminded people to always be cautious when travelling on the ice.
Environmental violations can be reported to Saskatchewan’s TIP line at 1-800-667-7561, or submitted online.
