Manitoba finance minister defends budget

It’s been a tough week for Manitoba Finance Minister Stan Struthers.

He presented the NDP government’s latest budget on Tuesday, and faced a barrage of criticism ever since – which many believe is well-deserved.

The financial blueprint included an unwelcome surprise for Manitobans – a hike in the provincial sales tax to 8% from 7%. And in a move that stoked the fires of outrage even further, the government plans to rewrite the province’s balanced-budget law to remove a requirement that a referendum be held first.

Stan Struthers sat down for a post budget interview with Global News, which also appears on Focus Manitoba at 6:30 Saturdays and Sundays on Global Winnipeg.
