A 14-year-old is facing weapons charges after a stabbing at St. John’s High School saw two students taken to hospital Monday.
Police said Tuesday that the teen was arrested after drawing a knife and injuring two other teens in what they believe was a ‘mutual fight’.
The suspect was charged with assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon and released on a promise to appear.
In a letter to parents, St. John’s principal Doug Taylor said the school went into a hold and secure in response to an altercation between the three students.
Taylor also said clinical support services will be on site at the school Tuesday should students need any additional support following the incident.
On Monday, witnesses told Global News the teens taken to hospital were Grade 9 or 10 students.
“I heard someone say they got stabbed … we were in hold-and-secure, so, we were fine, but … it was kind of a bit scary,” said a girl who was at the school at the time.
“It happened in the very front of the school, like inside when you first walk in,” said another teen.
Police said the assault happened at about 2:30 p.m. and police were called to the school, located at 401 Church Ave.
“The investigation is in the preliminary stages and we are unable to provide more information at this time,” Const. Jay Murray said Monday.
Police would not confirm the ages of those involved.
