Budget battle continues between Winnipeg and the province

The increasingly bitter funding battle between the governments of Manitoba and Winnipeg continues to escalate.

Last week, Mayor Brian Bowman accused the province of shorting the city by almost $75 million in infrastructure funding.

Bowman said the shortage could lead to substantial tax hikes.

Provincial Minister of Municipalities, Jeff Wharton, fired back, saying the province is disappointed.

Wharton added that Bowman’s funding assessment was inaccurate.

Hours later, Bowman said the way the money is outlined by the province is a “moving target.”
