Hockey parents had a tough time keeping their emotions in check in Simcoe over the weekend.
Norfolk County OPP were called to reports of a large “brawl” at the Talbot Gardens Arena just before 5 p.m. Sunday, after a peewee rep hockey game between 11- and 12-year-old kids.
The fight had broken up by the time officers arrived. Police say several parents were involved in a verbal altercation that turned physical.
Police were told as many as 30 adults were involved.
“Our kids are looking up to us, and we need to make sure that we set that example for our young kids,” said Norfolk OPP Cst. Ed Sanchuk, who has a staunch reminder for the parents who were involved in the incident.
“Parents need to use some common sense. We don’t always need to agree with each other, but we should show our kids even when we do have disagreements, that we show each other respect.”
There were no reports of injuries or complaints, and police say there were no arrests. However, they’re looking to speak with parents who were involved, or anyone with more information about what happened.
Simcoe is located about 80 km southwest of Hamilton and 100 km east of London.
