Canada Post honours homegrown bands with new stamps

TORONTO — Canada Post unveiled a set of stamps Thursday honouring homegrown bands Rush, The Guess Who, Beau Dommage and The Tragically Hip.

Part of the postal service’s Canadian Recording Artist series, the set won’t be available until July 19.

“This year’s series features Canadian bands that have shaped the music industry in Canada,” explained Canada Post’s Jim Phillips, in a release. “Each band has achieved national acclaim, along with international radio air-time and extensive tours.”

Beau Dommage is a Quebec band formed in 1973; Toronto-based Rush came together in 1968; The Guess Who got its start in Winnipeg in 1962; and Kingston’s The Tragically Hip debuted in 1984.

Canada Post has previously recognized Gordon Lightfoot, Joni Mitchell, Stompin’ Tom Connors, Robert Charlebois, Ginette Reno, Bryan Adams, Bruce Cockburn, Robbie Robertson, Edith Butler, Paul Anka, Kate and Anna McGarrigle and Anne Murray with stamps.
