Dr. Timothy Szozda, 57, was found to have engaged in disgraceful, dishonourable or unprofessional conduct towards a female patient in 2013 and 2014.

He has been handed a two-month suspension, a $6,000 fine, a public reprimand and will be required to take an ethics course. The suspension begins Feb. 1.

In its reprimand of Szozda, the Discipline Committee noted that he exhibited a “multi-faceted disregard for appropriate boundaries,” and that his “inappropriate and ill-considered comments and behaviour could have been understood as sexualizing the patient.”

The list of behaviours, which he did not dispute, included asking the patient if she had a boyfriend during an appointment about contraception. After the patient said she didn’t, he responded: “Really, a pretty girl like you?”

He also commented on how many fingers he could insert in her introital opening during a pelvic exam before he used a speculum.

He also failed to leave the room while the patient was getting dressed again, staying behind to work on his computer, according to the Discipline Committee.
