An hours-long standoff with police on Colony Street came to an end with the arrest of a 35-year-old man.
Police said the man had barricaded himself in an apartment, along with a 28-year-old female hostage, for almost 10 hours.
The standoff unfolded after police received a call around 3:30 p.m. Monday from another woman who said she had been beaten unconscious by the man at the apartment, and fled with her young child when she woke up.
She was treated at the scene for minor injuries.
The woman told police that the man may have been armed, and that there was another woman being held there.
The police Tactical Support Team blocked off the area for hours, eventually safely removing the suspect around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday.
The woman who had been held against her will wasn’t injured, although she told police she had previously been assaulted by the suspect Jan. 4.
Police said the man is now facing a number of charges in connection with the standoff, as well as theft and weapons offences from earlier in January.
Jamie Charles Grieves faces charges of assault, weapon possession, uttering threats, forcible confinement, public mischief, mischief under $5,000, assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm, theft under $5,000 and five counts of failing to comply with probation.
Grieves is currently cooling his heels at the Winnipeg Remand Centre.
