History

Then-Progressive Conservative incumbent MLA Sandra Jansen retained the Calgary-North West riding in the 2015 election. After securing her seat for another term, Jansen crossed the floor to join the NDP.

Voters in the Calgary-North West riding have a history of electing Progressive Conservatives to represent them in the legislature since 1971, though the riding was held for two terms by the Liberals between 1989 and 1997.
