One suspect and one WPS supervisor were hurt after a bizarre shooting and police chase Wednesday night.
Police were called at about 8:35 p.m. for an assault with a weapon report near McLeod Avenue and Raleigh Street. When they got there, the suspects drove away and police gave chase.
The chase was eventually abandoned due to reckless driving from the suspects, but police spotted them again at Panet Road and Nairn Avenue, said Cst. Rob Carver.
“We initiated a containment block,” said Carver. “A containment block is our cars box it in.”
However, the car rammed through it, forcing officers to open fire to “stop the threat of bodily harm or death to themselves or a fellow officer,” said Carver.

Police once again gave chase to Marion and Archibald. The suspects in the vehicle drove along train tracks to try to get away, but didn’t get far. A woman and two men were arrested.
One suspect, a 23-year-old man, had been shot and was taken to hospital. He was later released and is now in custody.
While on the tracks, a Winnipeg police supervisor was struck by a moving train and taken to hospital. Police said the injuries were not life-altering. He was also treated and released.

After the shooting, police shut down the intersection of Panet Road and Nairn Avenue to investigate overnight.
Police highlighted there was no risk to public safety.
The Independent Investigation Unit is now taking over the investigation. They said anyone with information or video footage that may help the investigation are asked to contact the IIU at 1-844-667-6060.
