Homicide detectives were called in to investigate a suspicious death in north Edmonton on Wednesday night, after officers responded to reports of a shooting.
Police were called to an address near 77 Street and 166 Avenue at about 8:15 p.m.
The victim has been identified as 52-year-old Enzo Campoli.
Police said he was found by officers on the sidewalk in front of a house.
“When officers arrived, they found a middle-aged male lying on the ground and he was injured and he was pronounced at the scene by EMS,” said Patrycja Mokrzan, Edmonton Police Service spokesperson.
A street in the Mayliewan neighbourhood could be seen blocked off with police tape. A tarp was also seen on the ground.
“Officers have canvassed the neighbourhood, speaking to witnesses and people who live in the area. It’s a residential neighbourhood and a lot of people probably would have heard the shots and that’s why there were several reports of it to police,” Mokrzan said.
The scene was under police control until mid-morning on Thursday.
There is currently no suspect description.
“Detectives… are hoping that people who know the individual will come forward with some information about the shooting or what led up to the incident,” Mokrzan said.
“Somebody knows something about what happened. Detectives would like to speak to those individuals to gain information that could help solve this crime.”
An autopsy has been scheduled for Friday, Jan. 11.
