SASKATOON – This winter’s continuous snow and bitter temperatures has made this cold season worse than last year.
Snow started to accumulate in Saskatoon in late October and April 23 will mark a half-a-year that Saskatonians have had to deal with it.
The seemingly never-ending winter is causing many to label it unusual and unique.
“I want to hear how much snow there is going to be and I want to know what type of weather conditions we’re going to have because I think its painfully unfair to look back and say through the rear view mirror with hindsight twenty-twenty I told you so,” said mayor Don Atchison.

Meteorologist Peter Quinlan says he’s been predicting this since the leaves started changing colors in 2012.
“Well we live in an era where you don’t need to flip a coin or roll a dice to be able to know the forecast. We were actually able to tell in the fall that this was going to be an above average winter snowfall,” said Quinlan.
While these conditions aren’t new to Saskatoon, the way the city has had to deal with the streets are.
The extreme freeze/thaw has meant graders are literally breaking down. Clearing roads and chipping away at the built-up ice is causing blades to break and hitting the city’s wallet even harder.
